Hulu’s “Love Overboard” Cancelled After One Season

Earlier this year, Disney launched a brand-new reality dating show called “Love Overboard” on Hulu and Disney+ around the world.  

The series is hosted by Gabby Windey, and viewers get to step aboard the ultimate luxury yacht, where sexy singles are ready to mix and mingle … and find love. But there’s a twist … gaining access to the yacht’s extravagant amenities won’t be so simple. As the journey unfolds, romance ignites; alliances form; and hearts are shattered. In the end, only one couple will reign supreme. Who will rise to the top, and who will be left stranded?

Disney has been investing in multiple reality shows, finding success with shows like “The Secret Lives Of Mormon Lives”, “The Kardashians” and “Vanderpump Villa”.  

Unfortunately, the show, which debuted in March, failed to capture a big enough audience and Deadline has revealed that Hulu has cancelled the show after one season.

“Love Overboard” is produced by Alex Cooper’s production company Unwell Productions, Jeff Jenkins Productions in association with 3BMG, and Walt Disney Television Alternative. Cooper serves as executive producer alongside Matt Kaplan and Mina Lefevre at Unwell Productions; Jeff Jenkins, Russell Jay-Staglik, and Jason Ehrlich at Jeff Jenkins Productions; and Ross Weintraub and Reinout Oerlemans at 3BMG.

Roger’s Take:  Weird dating shows continue to be a huge hit for streaming services, such as “Love Is Blind”, “Love Island” and “Married At First Sight”, so it makes sense that Disney is trying to find its own dating reality show, but finding the right format isn’t easy, so its understandable why Disney has pulled the plug on a project that didn’t work, though Disney might need to heavily invest a lot more in advertisting, as they often drop new shows all at once with little or no publicity.
