Disney has had lots of success bringing its animated Princesses into a live-action format and now it’s looking to attempt to do the same thing with Prince Charming.

According to Deadline, Disney is developing a brand new film, which is going to be directed by Paul King, who has previously worked on the popular “Paddington” movies and the latest “Willy Wonka” movie.

The upcoming movie is going to be written by Simon Farnaby and Jon Croker, along with Paul King.

No plot details for this new movie have been revealed, nor any details on the project’s tone or setting, such as whether it is a comedy, spoof, or drama.

While Prince Charming appeared in “Cinderella” in the classic Disney films, the name “Prince Charming” is often used in classic Fairy Tales as a prince who comes to the rescue of a damsel in distress or as a term to refer to the idea of a dream man to marry.

The character has also been linked to other classic fairy tales, such as “Snow White,” “Sleeping Beauty,” and “Rapunzel,” where a generic, often unnamed male character just comes in at the last minute to rescue the day. Though in the Disney films, the princes in these movies were given names, such as Prince Phillip and Prince Florian, many people just think of them as “Prince Charming.”

It’s not clear if Cinderella will actually be involved in this film, as that general story has been retold so many times, such as recently with Disney’s “Sneakerella”.

This project has been in the works for a number of years, as Disney was apparently working on a version of this many years ago, but nothing came of it and now it looks like the project is going through a change of creators.

Roger’s Take: The classic Prince Charming character often doesn’t fit with today’s standards, and we’ve seen the most recent versions of the character seem more like a spoof in films like “Shrek” and “Enchanted”, so it’ll be interesting to see what tone they go for with this movie.  There are many different options Paul could take with the tale of Prince Charming, and I personally hope they do keep it within the fairy tale fantasy genre rather than trying to do a modernised version.
