Disney is currently developing a brand new potential franchise project for Disney+ that will be exploring characters from Disney Theme Parks and their movies. This will be part of a “Magic Kingdom Universe”.
According to THR, Ron Moore is developing this new franchise and is has previously created “For All Mankind” for Apple TV+ and the upcoming “Swiss Family Robinson” series for Disney+.
The first project for the MKU will be “The Society of Explorers and Adventurers”, which is set in a world where all the themed lands and characters of the Disney parks and classic films actually exist in another reality.
This project will see Ron Moore working closing with the Disney Imagineering division, who develop new attractions and everything else within the theme parks, cruise lines and even Disney Stores.
A mini-writers room has already been put together, with Disney currently searching for three senior-level writers.
One possible series is that there could be characters from “The Jungle Cruise,” “Big Thunder Mountain” and the “Matterhorn” attractions, though its in the very early stage of development. There are many possible attractions that could be included in this new franchise, like “The Haunted Mansion”, “Soarin”, “The People Mover”, “Space Mountain” and many more.
Recently Ron Moore signed an overall deal with 20th Television and he will be working with previous collaborators Maril Davis and Ben McGinnis, on the Magic Kingdom Universe franchise.
This project is still in the very early stages of development and might not come to anything, but this isn’t the first project of this kind, as there was a series in development called “Kingdom Keepers”, which was cancelled.
