2024 has delivered some great new movies on Disney+ around the world from many of Walt Disney Studios’ including Marvel, Searchlight Pictures, 20th Century Studios & much more.

Since Disney+ operates slightly differently around the world, some of the movie’s availability may vary, with some movies being available within the Star hub internationally and via Hulu On Disney+ in the United States.

Here’s the rundown of some of the best movies of 2024 available on Disney+ so far:

Wish

Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Wish” is a captivating, animated musical-comedy about the magical kingdom of Rosas, where Asha, a sharp-witted idealist, makes a wish so powerful that it is answered by a cosmic force-a little ball of boundless energy called Star. Together, Asha and Star confront a most formidable foe-the ruler of Rosas, King Magnifico-to save her community and prove that when the will of one courageous human connects with the magic of the stars, wondrous things can happen.

“Wish” features some lovely songs, and there are plenty of Easter eggs celebrating Disney’s 100th anniversary that you’ll want to look out for. Give this one a whirl; not that many people saw it in cinemas, but I’m sure plenty of people will love it.

The Marvels

Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel, has reclaimed her identity from the tyrannical Kree. When her duties send her to an anomalous wormhole, her powers are entangled with super-fan Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel, and Carol’s estranged niece, astronaut Captain Monica Rambeau. Together, this unlikely trio must team up and work together to save the universe.

“The Marvels” is a fun easy-going adventure film that doesn’t take itself too seriously and I really enjoy a lighter superhero film. It’s not the best Marvel film, but don’t overlook it!

Next Goal Wins – Hulu/Star

This film follows the American Samoa soccer team, infamous for their brutal 31-0 FIFA loss in 2001. With the World Cup qualifiers fast approaching, the team hires down-on-his-luck, maverick coach Thomas Rongen (Michael Fassbender), hoping he will turn the world’s worst soccer team into winners.

If you’re a fan of Taika Waititi’s style of humour, which I am, then I’m sure you’ll enjoy this funny, if predictable, comedy.

Poor Things – Hulu/Star

This Oscar-winning film has been directed by Yorgos Lanthimos and is an incredible tale of the fantastical evolution of Bella Baxter (Emma Stone), a young woman brought back to life by the brilliant and unorthodox scientist Dr Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe). Under Baxter’s protection, Bella is eager to learn. Hungry for the worldliness she is lacking, Bella runs off with Duncan Wedderburn (Mark Ruffalo), a slick and debauched lawyer, on a whirlwind adventure across the continents. Free from the prejudices of her times, Bella grows steadfast in her purpose to stand for equality and liberation.

“Poor Things” isn’t for everyone and will push the limits of many who watch it. But it certainly will make you think.

All Of Us Strangers – Hulu/Star

In this hauntingly poignant and provocative story about love, family, and the ghosts of our past, Adam (Andrew Scott) lives a solitary life until one night, a mysterious neighbour (Paul Mescal) pays him a visit and stirs up emotions and memories he’d long blocked out. As the two find a connection and an undeniable attraction, Adam is pulled back to his childhood home, where his parents (Claire Foy and Jamie Bell) appear to be living 30 years after they died. What would you say – and what would you discover – if you could live one more day with the people you loved most?

“All Of Us Strangers” is a charming film with an interesting love story that also tries to deal with the pressures in dealing with coming out to your family, especially if you never got the opportunity to do so.
