For British and Irish fans of the National Geographic series, “Wicked Tuna”, unfortunately, today saw the removal of the show’s eighth season from Disney+.

“Wicked Tuna” follows a group of salty fishermen from the nation’s oldest seaport, Gloucester, Massachusetts, as they make their living the way it’s been done for centuries—rod and reel fishing, one catch at a time—all in pursuit of the bluefin tuna. One “monstah” bluefin can be worth more than $20,000, and with that kind of money on the line, every captain is fighting to be the best in the fleet.

Now, only season 9 is available on Disney+ in the UK and Ireland.

Unlike other streaming services like Netflix, Disney+ doesn’t inform subscribers in advance that content is going to be removed from the platform. While content being removed from Disney+ in the UK is rare, recently, there has been a trend of older National Geographic content being withdrawn. This could be because of long term licensing issues. As in “Wicked Tuna’s” case, there aren’t that many seasons available internationally, either on Disney+ or other digital platforms. However, in the United States, all ten seasons of the show are available.

It’s unknown if the eighth season of “Wicked Tuna” will return.

What do you think of Disney+ removing content?
