A family of villains is on the run and must hide out as a normal family in the small town of Valley View, Texas in the Disney Channel Original Series, “Villains of Valley View.” The first 5 episodes are currently available on Disney+ and look at how the family keeps their secret from their landlady, reveals their secret to their landlady’s granddaughter, and adjusts to a normal life all while the youngest child is finally developing his powers. Meanwhile, we also learn more about a superhero who is the nemesis of one of the villains, the hero of the landlady’s granddaughter, and once saved the life of another member of the villainous family.

This is a typical cheesy, Disney Channel Show, but I kind of like it. Many shows and movies follow the superheroes or follow the villains as they attempt a redemption arc. I like that this show is focused on the villains still wanting to be villainous, at least most of them, but also trying to be normal. It’s really the perfect kind of fodder for a Disney Channel series. It was fun seeing how they were able to slightly corrupt their do-gooder neighbor who looks up to superheroes into protecting their secret because, as she sees it, it’s what a superhero would do.

My favorite part is how the youngest child, Colby, is finally developing his powers and wants to find ways to use them villainously, but can’t because they have to hide out. He’s a shapeshifter and finds a way to prank people which is funny and perfect for the target demographic of this show. He’s transformed into a sweater, a turtle and even a water cooler during the first five episodes. Each episode I can’t wait to see what he’s going to become next.

This is not the best show I’ve ever seen that’s available on the Disney Channel, but it’s been a lot of fun so far. I would never have sat down and watched this on my own, but with kids, I can check it out and find things that I enjoy about it. I can’t wait to see what happens as the series continues.
