The final episode of “The Wonderful World of Mickey Mouse” brings Mickey Mouse full circle as Steamboat Willie makes an appearance in the episode entitled, “Steamboat Silly.” Mickey and friends are watching old home movies when Steamboat Willie leaves the film reel and enters the Wonderful World of Mickey Mouse. He then goes out causing trouble in town, and it’s up to Mickey and friends to save the day.

This was a fun ten-minute short. It’s well-known that Steamboat Willie will be entering public domain next year, so it’s fun to see the character being used again. While I’m sure there are business reasons for this decision, it doesn’t change the fact that fans of the character benefit from it being used in this short. It’s nice to see how Mickey Mouse has changed over the years and seeing the original animated version of Mickey Mouse interact with the current animated version brings a lot of joy to me.

Mickey and friends also sing the traditional “Mickey Mouse” theme song. It’s an excellent call back to some of what made Mickey Mouse classic for so many people. The friends work together to save the day. It’s predictable and still incredibly fun. It really is “Steamboat Silly.”

I’m a little disappointed this series is ending, but I get it. It doesn’t mean the end of new Mickey Mouse shorts, just the end of the shorts under the umbrella title of “The Wonderful World of Mickey Mouse.” I really enjoyed this series, and I can’t wait to see more Mickey Mouse shorts even if it’s not from this series.
