The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers | Season 2 Episode 4 Review
It’s time for the coaches to draft their teams at EPIC and get ready for tournament play in the latest episode of the Disney+ Original Series, “The Mighty Duck: Game Changers.” Evan looks up to Coach Cole and wants to be picked by him. Alex has become one of the coaches replacing the one who was injured in the coaches vs. campers game. And after the draft order is set, Alex makes her way up to the top of the draft board before throwing everyone a curve ball.
It’s now Evan versus the team he helped recruit as he makes sure his mother doesn’t pick him. Alex picks the rest of the Mighty Ducks for her team and then picks Coach Cole’s son to round it out. This was entirely predictable to set up the tension going forward this season. Alex is now the coach who understands that her players don’t necessarily fit in with the summer camp vibe. The only one who is fitting in is her own son, which makes everything harder for her, for him and for his relationship with Sophie. But the movies and the first season have all taught us one thing, “ducks fly together.” At some point, I’m certain we will see Evan reunite with the team, probably in the season finale.
I’m not looking forward to the adversity the team is facing this season. Last season, while it was a bit generic and juvenile, it still felt right for the season. This season feels like they are doing the best they can with a series that had to be shot during Covid restrictions. I like how everyone is trying their best, but the series just isn’t connecting for me.
This season is rather bland for my taste. The first season was bland too, but it had to deal with Covid hitting right in the middle of filming and trying to combine the two. This season had all of the restrictions in place before it started, so it should be able to flow a little better than it is. I get that it’s targeting a younger audience, so some of the drama isn’t going to work for me, but I still think it can be improved upon to work for the target demographics as well. This series has been fun at times, but this season isn’t holding up through four episodes.
