Following the cancellation of Taylor Swift’s 2020 concert plans due to the Coronavirus crisis, Disney struck a limited time deal to bring a special event called “City Of Lover”, which was filmed in September, in front of an intimate crowd of fans at the L’Olympia Theater in Paris, France.  This event features acoustic versions of some of the songs from her “Lover” album including “Me”, “Lover, “You Need To Calm Down” and “The Man”.

As you would expect, Taylor Swift’s performance is fantastic, since she is used to taking her music on the road to huge sold out concerts around the world.   I really enjoyed the down to earth style, there was no big set, no costume changes and it was often just her on stage with a guitar or piano.

I’ve been a fan of Taylor Swift’s music for over a decade and “Me” was one of my favourite songs from last year, so watching this special was really enjoyable and I’ve no doubt that Taylor Swift fans are going to love having this on Disney+.   I’ve already watched it 4 times since it was released, because it is something you can put on in the background, while doing something (like writing this review) and listen to the music.

I’d love to see much more of this type of content available on Disney+, concerts and special album launch events would make a great addition to the library, by offering more variety and giving artists an opportunity to reach a larger audience.

Personally, I would have liked this special to have been much longer, coming in at just over 40 minutes, it felt very short.  It would have been nice to have had some of her previous big hits included on the special, but since this was basically an album launch event, it meant the focus was on songs from the new “Lover” album.

One of the only issues I did have with this special, is that the description says it gives fans unprecedented access to behind-the-scenes moments, but in reality, it’s a short clip of Taylor practicing one of the songs backstage and some Paris imagery.  It feels a little bit of a push to say it’s anything special or of any real value to the special.

For Taylor Swift fans, this is a very easy recommendation, the music sounds great, it’s put together in a great little package and has high replay value.  It’s short and very sweet!
