Disney+ is back with a new series of shorts paying tribute to the audio of Star Wars in the latest Disney+ Original “series,” “Star Wars: Galaxy of Sounds.” There are seven episodes that focus on the hard work of Skywalker Sound. The episodes are called “Wonder,” “Excitement,” “Dark Side,” “Light Side,” “Beeps, “Connections” and “Oddities.” It features scenes from all 11 live-action movies, “The Mandalorian,” and the animated TV series.

Much like Disney’s “Zenimation” series, I found this series of “Star Wars” scenes focusing on the audio to be oddly calming. I’ve dealt with anxiety issues in the past, so sometimes I really benefit from throwing on series like this and just getting lost in the sounds. After watching these episodes, that average seven minutes apiece, I was in a state of zen, you might say. This is basically the audio form of the Biomes series released earlier this year. That one calmed me down with visuals, while this one calmed me down with audio.

My favorite of these episodes was, easily, “Dark Side.” I love seeing how the audio tells the story of Anakin’s fall to the Dark Side, how ominous Darth Maul, Darth Vader, and Kylo Ren can be, and how Darth Sidious is the one behind everything. In contrast, my least favorite was “Beeps.” I love R2-D2 and BB-8. I love how their beeps further the story of “Star Wars.” But, I didn’t love just hearing the beeps by themselves. It’s the one episode I couldn’t connect with. The droids beeping needs the rest of the storyline for me to enjoy it.

I’m really intrigued by these little shorts that have little to no plot but can help huge fans of the subject connect more. I loved “Galaxy of Sounds, much in the same way that I loved “Biomes,” “Vehicle Flythroughs,” “Zenimation,” and “Pixar Popcorn.” I find these series calming. Maybe I’m biased due to my anxiety, but I want to see more of these. I’d also like to see Marvel add some to the collection we’ve already seen from Disney, Pixar, and Star Wars.
