Sharon Horgan Says ABC Passing On US. ‘Motherland’ Remake Is ‘Their Loss’
Earlier this year, Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed that they would be pulling back on how much money it spends on general entertainment content and with the writer’s strike underway, many projects have been paused or cancelled, plus Earlier this month, ABC decided to pass on a pilot of “Keeping It Together”, which is formerly known as “Drop-Off”, which is a US remake of the British comedy series, “Motherland”.
“Keeping It Together” centres around Julia, a working mom for whom nothing is working, so she goes looking for her village. With the help of new friends Calvin and Liz, Julia discovers she just might succeed at balancing work and parenting from time to time. This is a comedy for anybody who’s dropped their kids at school, breathed a sigh of relief … then realized it’s Sunday.
The pilot starred Ellie Kemper (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt), Karan Soni (Deadpool), Nancy Lenehan (Veep), Michaela Conlin (Dollface) and Judy Greer (Reboot).
Recently the creator of the original British series, Sharon Horgan, who co-wrote the original BBC show and executive produced the pilot, recently revealed in an interview with THR at the Banff World Media Festival, how she felt about the decision by ABC to pass on the US remake of “Motherland”.
“It’s their loss. I think they’re just playing it safe. I think they’ve recommissioned, as far as I know, all of their ongoing sitcoms. And I think just because of the current climate at the moment, they just weren’t ready to take a chance on launching a new comedy, but you know, it’s such a great pilot.”
The pilot was created by Lionsgate, who are now shopping the project around to other networks.
