Disney’s Searchlight Pictures is developing a new film, “O’Dessa”, which will star Sadie Sink as a farm girl in a post-apocalyptic future who leaves her home to recover a cherished family heirloom. On her journey, she explores a bizarre and deadly city, and finds true love – but she must save her lover’s soul with the power of destiny and song.

The new film is going to begin production in Croatia in May, just before Sadie returns to film the fifth season of Netflix’s “Stranger Things”. Sadie has also recently starred in “The Whale”.

“O’Dessa” is going to be directed by Geremy Jasper, who has also written the film, plus some of the original songs, and he will also produce it, with Jason Binnick. Other producers include Michael Gottwald for the Department of Motion Pictures, Noah Stahl, and Rodrigo Teixeira for RT Features, as well as executive producers Jonathan Montepare, Dan Janvey, and Lourenço Sant’Anna. They have previously worked together on Geremy’s Jasper’s “Patti Cake$”.

In a statement, Searchlight presidents Matthew Greenfield and David Greenbaum said:

“We are so excited to be collaborating with Geremy again. With O’dessa, he brings extraordinary and visceral energy to a whole new cinematic landscape.”

SVP Taylor Friedman and creative executive Cornelia Burleigh will oversee the project for Searchlight Pictures, reporting to Heads of Production and Development Katie Goodson-Thomas and DanTram Nguyen.   No release schedule has yet been announced for the film, such as if it will be a theatrical release or a direct-to-streaming title.
