Searchlight Pictures’ “A Real Pain” Theatrical Release Announced
Earlier this year, at the Sundance Film Festival, Disney’s Searchlight Pictures acquired the worldwide rights for a new movie, “A Real Pain,” for $10 million.
The film has been directed and written by Jesse Eisenberg, who will also be starring in the film alongside recent Emmy winner Kieran Culkin, who will be playing mismatched cousins, David and Benji, who reunite for a tour of Poland to honour their grandmother, but older tensions resurface against the backdrop of their family’s history.
“A Real Pain” will also star Jennifer Grey, Will Sharpe, Kurt Egyiawan (Beasts of No Nation), Liza Sadovy (“A Small Light”), and Daniel Oreskes (Only Murders in the Building).
Topic and Fruit Tree have produced the upcoming film. Ali Herting, Dave McCary, Ewa Puszczynska, Jennifer Semler, Jesse Eisenberg, and Emma Stone also produced the film.
Back at the Sundance Film Festival, Searchlight Presidents Matthew Greenfield and David Greenbaum said in a statement regarding picking up the film:
“We are blown away by Jesse’s vision and craft in telling this hilarious and profound film. He tells a deeply personal story and makes it universal. We can’t wait to bring it to audiences around the world.”
“A Real Pain” will be released in cinemas on October 18th 2024, and we should expect to see it released on Disney’s streaming platforms, Hulu and Disney+, in early 2025.
