Prep and Landing Review
Elves show us how they prepare houses for Santa’s arrival to protect him and the kids in “Prep and Landing.” Wayne is an elf in “Prep and Landing” who wants a promotion, but after getting passed over, he ends up letting his anger get the better of him and almost ruins one boy’s Christmas. It’s then up to Wayne, and his partner Lanny, to guide Santa’s sleigh to the house to ensure it’s a happy Christmas.
This is a pretty good half hour short that focuses on some issues that adults face all the time, but brings the focus back around to the kids. Many of us have felt we’ve earned promotions before ultimately being passed over for someone else. And, many of us have let that disappointment get in our way. But, sometimes, we need a reminder that there are more important things in life. It’s a great message that will resonate with adults watching with their kids, while the kids are enjoying the hijinks of the elves.
Dave Foley does an excellent job providing the voice of Wayne. I’ve seen Foley in numerous TV show and movies and I don’t think I’ve ever been disappointed with any of his performances. He’s got a pretty good comedic range that’s a lot of fun to see and hear. Even if the films or shows weren’t good, Foley’s performance was and this special is no exception.
This is not going to shoot to the top of my Christmas special watchlist. It’s fun. I’ll definitely watch it if I see it available, but it’s not a classic like “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” or “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.” Disney+ is an excellent place to find it and if they start a featured section for Christmas films like they did Halloween films, it’ll definitely be a good home for it and other specials in the “Prep and Landing” series. I will probably watch this again in December, but after I’ve watched some more classic and somewhat better specials.
