20th Century Studios is developing the next instalment of the “Planet Of The Apes” franchise, and Deadline has reported that Owen Teague will be starring as the lead primate in the new film.

Owen Teague has previously starred in “It” and in the upcoming Paramount+ series, “The Stand”.

Very little is known about this new “Planets Of The Apes” film, but ever since Disney purchased 20th Century Fox, the franchise has been a high priority.

The new film is going to be directed by Wes Ball, who joined the project in 2019 and has been working on the script and with the VFX teams. Production on the project is set to begin by the end of the year, as the script was handed into the studio earlier this summer.

Over the summer, 20th Century Studios executives and Wes Ball have been testing talent for the main roles. Owen Teague impressed the executives during his screen tests and was offered the role.

“Planet Of The Apes” has been a major franchise for 20th Century Studios since the 1960s and has spawned numerous films, including two reboots, plus TV series and an animated show. Many of which are available on Disney+ around the world.

The original film starred Charlton Heston as Astronaut Taylor, who crash lands on a distant planet ruled by apes who use a primitive race of humans for experimentation and sport. Soon Taylor finds himself among the hunted, his life in the hands of a benevolent chimpanzee scientist.
