‘National Treasure’ Film Franchise Actor Returns For Disney+ Series
If you are anything like me, I am a huge National Treasure franchise fan. So while I eagerly await the long gesturing 3rd film in the franchise, I was ecstatic to find out that we will be getting a new entry in the franchise. But this time, we are getting a brand new series with an all-new cast.
We were told it was an entirely new cast until news broke yesterday. Disney+ officially announced that Justin Bartha has signed on for a guest spot in the all-new Disney+ original series. Justin Bartha returns as a fan favorite, Riley who was first seen in the first National Treasure film in 2004.
Riley was the right-hand man of Ben Gates (Nicolas Cage), who in the first adventure set off to find a secret hidden treasure map on the back of the Declaration of Independence. Both Riley(Bartha) and Ben(Cage) appeared in the franchise’s sequel, Nation Treasure: Book of Secrets, in 2007. At this time, no other star from the film franchise is confirmed to return for the series. Even though I am personally hoping we do see Nicolas Cage himself make an appearance.
The brand new series is an expansion of the namesake movie franchise and centers on a young heroine, Jess, a brilliant and resourceful dreamer who embarks on the adventure of a lifetime to uncover the truth about her family’s mysterious past and save a lost Pan-American treasure.
The already under-production series stars Lisette Alexis, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Zuri Reed, Jordan Rodrigues, Antonio Cipriano, Jake Austin Walker, and Lyndon Smith. Jerry Bruckheimer, Cormac and Marianne Wibberley, Jonathan Littman, and KristieAnne Reed serve as Executive Producers. Rick Muirragui, who is also an Executive Producer, is on board as writer. The film franchise’s original director Jon Turteltaub returns also as an executive producer. Mira Nair serves as director and Executive Producer.
You can also watch the first two “National Treasure” films on Disney+ now.
