Mike Tyson is the world heavyweight boxing champion but he’s letting Don King manage everything in the latest episode of the Disney+ Star and Hulu Original Series, “Mike.” Tyson is on top of the world. He’s the baddest man on the planet. He’s got video games with his picture on the cover. He’s got a good relationship with his sister. He is living the good life at parties. He’s completely unaware that his world is about to come crashing down.

Mike Tyson’s story is one of many highs and many lows. We’ve seen the lows of his childhood. We’ve seen the lows of his marriage. But we’ve also seen the highs of his boxing career. This episode shows what happens when Tyson trusts the wrong people and starts resting on his laurels. He loses his boxing title to Buster Douglas. He has a big fight with his sister who he would lose not long after then. He also gets replaced on the cover of his own video game. The man who was once on top of the world is now facing adversity for the first time since the end of his marriage to Robin Givens. What will he do?

Episode four ends with a very ominous warning. While Tyson has been facing adversity, he’s still in an enviable position. Those of us who know Tyson’s story know what’s about to happen next in the series. Tyson would be convicted of rape and spend years in prison. What actually happened on the night in question? I don’t know. I wasn’t there and I don’t pretend to speculate on such serious issues. I know what the accusations are. I know the result of the trial. And I know the punishment he received. It will be interesting to see how this series handles this delicate situation in the next episode.

This series has been intriguing so far. It’s got its ups and its downs. It handles some topics very well while glossing over others. Tyson has had an amazing restoration to his reputation over the years by being open about his struggles. Many point to him as a great redemption story. Still others don’t think he deserves redemption because of his crimes. I can’t make that decision for you, but I’m enjoying this series about his life, even if the man himself is opposed to it.
