Melissa McCarthy In Talks To Join Disney’s Live Action “The Little Mermaid”
Early details on the upcoming live action version of Disney’s animated classic, The Little Mermaid, has been revealed.
According to Variety, Bridemaids star Melissa McCarthy is in talks to voice Ursula. Though the deal hasn’t yet been finalised, so things might change.
It’s also being reported by the Hollywood Reporter, that Jacob Tremblay is in talks to voice Flounder, while “Crazy Rich Asians” Awkwafina is in negotiations to voice the bird, Skuttle.
The movie will see Alan Menken and Lin-Manuel Miranda composing new songs, along with modern versions of classic songs. And the director of Mary Poppins Returns, Rob Marshall, will be directing the new musical version.
With other remakes of classic 90’s movies like Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin, have been hugely successful at the box office and the upcoming version of “The Lion King” looks set to be another hit for Disney.
Production on the movie is due to begin next year, but no official details on this “Little Mermaid” remake has been announced. So it might be a while before we see it on Disney+, though hopefully official details will be revealed at next months D23 Expo.
