ABC’s hit series, “American Idol”, returns to our screens later this month for a seventh season with superstar judges Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie helping determine who America will ultimately vote to become the next singing sensation. Emmy Award-winning host and producer Ryan Seacrest hosts the beloved competition series.

On the latest episode of “Jimmy Kimmel Live”, Katy Perry was asked how long she is planning on being a judge on “American Idol”, to which she replied:

“So I think this will probably be my last season for Idol.  I love Idol so much.  It’s connected me with the heart of America but I feel like I need to feel that pulse to my own beat.”

When asked if her fellow judges, Luke Bryan or Lionel Richie, knew about her decision to leave, she added:

“Well, they’ll find out tonight.”

The news of Katy Perry leaving the show will open up discussions about who might replace her, and it’s unlikely that we will hear about this while the new season is being released.  Though, Katy is open to returning in the future.

“I love the show so much but I want to go and see the world and maybe bring new music.  Maybe I’ll come back if they have me one day.”

“American Idol” is produced by Fremantle and 19 Entertainment, a part of Sony Pictures Television. Executive producers include Megan Michaels Wolflick, also serving as showrunner, and Fremantle’s Jennifer Mullin, with Eli Holzman and Aaron Saidman serving as executive producers for 19 Entertainment. Fremantle distributes the series worldwide, which is why the show isn’t available on Disney+ outside the United States.

“American Idol” returns with its season premiere on Sunday, 18th February, at 8:00 p.m. EST on ABC, and it will be available the next day on Hulu and Hulu On Disney+.
