Following Sweety’s murder, the hunt to catch Clement Mansell is leading a lot of people to do a lot of terrible things in the latest episode of “Justified: City Primeval.” Marshal Raylan Givens gets the gun from Sweety’s partner and hands it off to a police officer he thinks he can trust, but it turns out, she’s in the judge’s book and is ready to arrest someone else spotted in the park the night of the murder. Carolyn has no faith in the police to make the correct arrest and goes into business for herself once she knows where Mansell is going to be. And, after running out of options, Sandy cooperates with Givens, but the Albanian mob is closing in on everyone.
This episode highlights the corruption, the anger, the pain, the betrayal and every emotion that every character seems to be feeling. Mansell thought he could trust two people, Sweety and Sandy. After learning of Sweety’s willingness to sell him out, Mansell killed Sweety and no longer trusts Sandy. However, it is Sweety’s murder that leads down to the worst possible situation for Mansell.
Carolyn won’t represent him and he’s ready to hurt her. She is still using Givens to get to Mansell and tells the Albanian mob everything she knows. Upon learning that Mansell killed Sweety, Sandy realizes that she is no longer safe now that Givens has the murder weapon. She tries to go back to the Albanian that she and Mansell conned and injured, but he wants nothing to do with her. She tries to flee, but in the end, she realizes Givens is her best hope.
Unfortunately, Marshal Raylan Givens is being betrayed at almost every turn. He learns the officer leading the investigation is in the judge’s book for taking bribes. When he gets the gun back thanks to another officer who is unwilling to let an innocent man go down, Givens uses it to get a meeting with Mansell, but Carolyn’s deal with the Albanian mob leads to both Mansell and Givens being taken away. In the end, it appears the Albanians have done what Mansell wanted Sandy to do that would’ve helped him avoid all of this trouble.
This penultimate episode sets up an interesting finale. How will Givens get away from the Albanians and still apprehend Mansell for the murder of Judge Guy? Was that the actual gun used in the murder? Or was Givens trying to trick Mansell? This series has set up a lot of questions and answered them all at just the right time. I can’t wait to see how the finale plays out.
