FX is expanding its “American Story” franchise with a new spinoff limited series “American Sports Story”, which is a new scripted anthological limited series focusing on a prominent event involving a sports figure and re-examining it through today’s world’s prism, telling that story from multiple perspectives. The new series is going to be called “Gladiator: American Sports Story”.

The first instalment of American Sports Story is based on the podcast Gladiator: Aaron Hernandez and Football Inc. from the Boston Globe and Wondery. The limited series charts the rise and fall of NFL superstar Aaron Hernandez and explores the connections of the disparate strands of his identity, his family, his career, his suicide, and their legacy in sports and American culture.

The upcoming limited series will star Josh Andrés Rivera in the role of Aaron Hernandez, and Patrick Schwarzenegger will be playing the role of former NFL star Tim Tebow. The show will also star Tammy Blanchard, Lindsay Mendez, Jake Cannavale, Jaylen Barron, Catfish Jean and Tony Yazbeck.

The Wrap has revealed that J. Alex Brinson has joined the cast and will be playing the role of Odin Lloyd in a single episode. Odin Lloyd was semi-professional American football player, who was murdered by Aaron Hernandez.

J.Alex has previously starred in the CBS series “All Rise” and Netflix’s sci-fi series “Travelers”.

Stu Zicherman (The Americans) is the writer and executive producer of the show, along with Ryan Murphy, Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson, Alexis Martin Woodall and Brad Falchuk.  Hernan Lopez and Marshall Lewy of Wondery (Dr. Death) are Executive Producers alongside Executive Producers Linda Pizutti Henry and Ira Napoliello of The Boston Globe.

This new series will follow on from the successful “American Horror Story”, “American Crime Story”, and “American Horror Stories” series, which are available to stream now on Hulu and Hulu On Disney+ in the United States and on Disney+ in many countries around the world including the UK, Canada and Australia.
