Disney’s newest Disney+ Original show features Bill Farmer, who you might not not know, but when you hear his voice, it’ll sound familiar, since he has been the iconic voice of Goofy and Pluto for more than 30 years.

In this new series, Disney Legend Bill Farmer steps out from behind the microphone and crosses the country meeting dogs doing all kinds of incredible jobs that make our lives better.

This episode sees Bill meet a dog who sniffs for whale poop and a dog that works at a sheep ranch.   I personally found the dog who tracks down Orca poop to be the most entertaining, as in all honesty, I would never have thought they would have used a dog for that purpose.   I could have done without the close up of them sliding the whale poop into the tub while eating my breakfast, but I suppose they had to at least show us what it looked like.

The second story about a ranch dog was something that wasn’t as unique, since in the UK we’ve had a series called “One Man and his Dog”, which has been running since the 1970’s about sheep herding dogs.  But obviously not everyone will have that history with it!

And finally there was a small segment at the end which saw a dentist show how she is treating dogs.  But this had a terrible quality skype interview with the dentist, which was strange since I’d have assumed the show had completed its filming months ago before the current situation.  It just felt completely out of place when compared to the quality of the filming in the rest of the episode.  Especially as there were many big wide shots using drones of buildings and some fantastic footage of Orca whales, it just seemed extra filler popped into the episode.

One of the issues I have with this show is the presenter, Bill Farmer, he seems a lovely bloke and obviously is good at doing his voice over work, as he has done so many movies, TV shows and video games, but in this show, it just didn’t work. He obviously loves dogs and that aspect works well, but I just didn’t click with his presenting style.    I also found his voice distracting, because it would keep reminding me of Goofy, which I’m sure some Disney fans will love, but it might have worked better had they just had “Goofy” doing the voiceover rather than “Bill”.

Overall, I wasn’t blown away with this episode, it’s very fluffy and would be something you might find on TV during the daytime while you are doing something else, the episode is barely over 20 minutes long but it felt much longer.  It’s a solid and enjoyable family friendly show to watch with kids, but for adults, the tone isn’t going to work,  It’s a nice easy going show and it’s upbeat, warm and fuzzy, like the dogs in the show.  But it didn’t scratch that itch for me.

Rating 2.5 out of 5.
