Back in 2004, Disney released, “National Treasure”, a film about Benjamin Franklin Gates, played by Nicolas Cage, who was obsessed with finding the legendary Knights Templar Treasure, the greatest fortune known to man and in order to stop it from falling into dangerous hands, he must steal one of America’s most sacred and guarded documents — the Declaration of Independence.

It’s been over fifteen years since “National Treasure 2: Book Of Secrets” was released, and in late 2022, Disney finally released a new instalment in the franchise, a new ten episodes series called “National Treasure: Edge Of History” was released on Disney+, with a double episode premiere on the 14th December, with new episodes being released weekly afterwards.

In the new series, Jess Valenzuela’s life is turned upside down when an enigmatic stranger gives her a clue to a centuries-old treasure that might be connected to her long-dead father. Jess has a knack for solving puzzles, and her skills are put to the test as she and her friends follow a series of clues hidden in American artifacts and landmarks. But can Jess outsmart a black-market antiquities dealer in a race to find history’s greatest lost treasure and unbury the truth about her family’s past?

With the new series currently being released on Disney+, many fans of the show have been wondering if there will be a second season of the show.  Unfortunately, Disney hasn’t yet announced if the show will be returning for a second season.

When it comes to renewals of Disney+ Original series, there is no pattern in how they are announced.  Sometimes the success of the show is very apparent, resulting in a quick turnaround by Disney, announcing a second season is in development before a show is released or during the release period, one such example has been “Star Wars: Andor”.  Sometimes, Disney announces shows will be returning on the day of a finale, like it has done recently with “The Santa Clauses”.And sometimes, it can be months from when a finale is released before a second season announcement is made.

No data has been released by Disney, nor other third-party data companies like Nielsen, so it’s less clear if the show has been a hit with viewers, which is usually a big indication on if the show will be returning.

Once we know if the show is officially returning or if it won’t, we will update this page.

The good news, however, is that a third film in the franchise is also in development, so the future of the “National Treasure”, isn’t completely buried.  And maybe, we will see some of the characters from this show, appear in the third film with Nicholas Cage.

Both “National Treasure” films, along with the “National Treasure: Edge Of History”, are available to stream now on Disney+.
