It’s time for the AFLW Championship and we follow the two teams in the Grand Final as they face struggles before the big game, and a new champion is crowned in the finale of “Fearless: The Inside Story of the AFLW.” Adelaide is aiming for their third AFLW championship, but an upset could be in the works as the teams deal with injuries and Covid outbreaks ahead of the Grand Final.

We get to see how the teams react after several players test positive for Covid right before the Championship game. Of course, many of them wound up being cleared before the game, but it was touch and go there for a while. We also see one of the star players learn she won’t get to play in the Grand Final because she suffered a concussion in the previous game and didn’t clear concussion protocol in time. While it’s definitely tough for a competitor to not get to play in a championship game, concussions should always be taken seriously. She seemed to understand why, but you still feel for her as she processes the emotional impact of the ruling.

In the end, Adelaide avoids the upset and wins its third AFLW Championship. The women are rewarded for their hard work. And many of them are able to pay tribute to those they’ve lost who helped inspire their journeys. This is the first episode of the series where the sport mattered as much to me as the stories behind it. We always needed the focus on the games to make this episode work.

This was a great series that raised my interest in Australian Football as a whole and women’s Australian Football specifically. I loved learning about their ups and downs, their joys and struggles. You see the effort these women put in to be the best in their country and their leagues, and they shine. It’s a good watch and I learned a lot.
