Disney’s “Wish” Granted! Early Release Announced For Latest Animated Film
Disney has announced that it will be releasing the upcoming animated film, “Wish”, earlier than planned in over 750 cinemas across the United States.
“Wish” is the latest animated classic from Walt Disney Animation Studios and welcomes audiences to the magical kingdom of Rosas, where Asha, a sharp-witted idealist, makes a wish so powerful that it is answered by a cosmic force—a little ball of boundless energy called Star. Together, Asha and Star confront a most formidable foe—the ruler of Rosas, King Magnifico—to save her community and prove that when the will of one courageous human connects with the magic of the stars, wondrous things can happen. The film stars Ariana DeBose as Asha, Chris Pine as Magnifico, and Alan Tudykas as Asha’s favourite goat, with a surprisingly low voice, Valentino.
Disney Animation’s chief creative officer Jennifer Lee (“Frozen,” “Frozen 2”), who is a writer and executive producer of the film said in a statement regarding the early release of the film:
“Getting to make this movie has meant the world to all of us at Disney Animation, as it celebrates 100 years of storytelling. We are so grateful to the fans who’ve shown up to the theaters time and again—to be able to give moviegoers a chance to experience it early is a wish come true for every person in our studio who helped bring ‘Wish’ to life.”
“Wish” will go on general release in US cinemas on November 22nd 2023, just in time for Thanksgiving, but now the film will hit big screens in about 750 theatres at 4 p.m. local time on November 18th 2023. Tickets are now available for the special early access screenings at Fandango.com/DisneyWishEarlyAccess.
With the film coming out a few days earlier than planned, this will likely help the film bump up its opening weekend numbers to look a little more respectable since many of Disney’s recent animated films have been struggling to pull in audiences at cinemas. A good opening weekend number, will help entice many moviegoers to the cinema to see the film, since, over the years, people feel like the box office success indicates if a film is good or bad, rather than the movie itself.
Pixar’s latest film, “Elemental” bucked that trend, with a poor opening weekend at the box office, but with good word of mouth, the film was able to pull in around $500 million in cinemas, before eventually going on to become one of the most popular films on Disney+ this year. And Disney will likely want that early word of mouth to be spread before the film’s main release, especially with the actors strike ongoing, so none of the actors are available to promote the film.
A new poster for the upcoming early release has also been revealed, which you can check out below:
