Disney has been working on another sequel to the classic 90s comedy movie, “Sister Act” for years and confirmedat the Investors Day event in 2020, that it was making the third film in the franchise, which will see Whoopi Goldberg return as Deloris, a lounge singer, who, in the original film, was persuaded to go into witness protection as a nun at a convent after she witnesses a murder. But once there, she has trouble adjusting to her new lifestyle.

Over the years, we’ve had small updates on the film, including a video of Whoopi Goldberg visiting the Vatican last summer to organise a possible scene from the third film.

Recently, on an episode of “The View,” the cast came back together to celebrate the franchise, and Tanya Trotter of The War And Treaty, who also starred in the second film, was involved in the celebration.

During a recent interview with ET, Tanya gave a small update on the upcoming film, though she couldn’t confirm if she will be appearing in the movie.

“Well, I can’t say [whether or not I’m a part of it], but I do know that the script is done,”

No other details have yet been announed about the upcoming third film, which has been in development for years, such as a plot, or if it will be released in cinemas or Disney+ first.

The upcoming movie will be directed by Tim Federle, and it will also star Wendy Makkena, Kathy Najimy, Sheryl Lee Ralph and Keke Palmer.

Recently, the film’s producer, Tyler Perry, expressed his frustration at how long it’s taking to make.

“I’m a little annoyed with how long this has taken me. It’s taking so long — like, I’ve done four movies since we started talking about this. When I’m outside producing with… you know, Disney’s a huge, wonderful company, but I really want to get this movie and Whoopi really wants to get this movie,”

And last month, Whoopi Goldberg revealed that she is still working on it and to be patient.

“I can say it’s coming. It’s coming around the mountain when it comes. It’ll be here soon. I’m excited. It’s time for it, you know, it’s time. Because we need to laugh, you know? I don’t know what we’re going into, but whatever it is, I’m gonna need to chuckle a lot…I think I’m good when I make other people laugh, too.”

Hopefully, the new “Sister Act” movie will be released soon, but while we wait, both of the original films are available to stream now on Disney+.
