Back at Disney’s Investor Day event in April, it was revealed that Disney+ is predicted to have between 60 and 90 million subscribers, globally, by the end of 2024.

And while Disney+ is set to launch in the US on November 12th, the rest of the world has to wait a little longer.  With a Western European release coming within the first two quarters of Disney’s financial year of 2020 and a Eastern European launch the following year.

And there is a reason why Europe is going to be a major part of Disney+, as Digital TV Research recently released some data on how streaming is growing in Western Europe.

With Digital TV Research’s Simon Murray, principal analyst at Digital TV Research, recently said: “Disney+ will make a strong and immediate impact, given its extensive brand recognition and impressive content lineup. We forecast 19.18 million paying subscribers by 2024—fast approaching Amazon Prime Video.”

Which means Western Europeans could be between 20% to 30% of the global subscribers for the new service and that number will be even greater once the product is launched in Eastern Europe.

One of the key reasons for the delay is European legislation, which requires a certain amount of content to be created within Europe for a streaming service to be given a license to operate.  But the huge number of subscribers, is what is driving Disney to recreate Netflix’s approach to global domination.

However Netflix will remain the largest pan-regional SVOD platform, representing 42% of the region’s total, with an estimated 55 million European subscribers.

Are you going to be one of the 20 million European subscribers?

Hoping that arrow at the top right corner does not mean that parts of Eastern Europe will get D+ all the way up in 2022!! Can you clarify that for me, admin?
