Over the past few years, there has been lots of talk about the future of the “Pirates Of The Caribbean” franchise following Johnny Depp’s legal issues with his ex-wife, which resulted in the development of other films previously connected with Margot Robbie.

Disney is always looking at ways to take an established franchise and either revive it or reboot it, and it looks like “Pirates Of The Caribbean” might be getting a full reboot with brand new ideas and characters.

During a recent interview with Jerry Bruckheimer about his new film “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare”, the producer of the previous Pirates films told Comicbook.com.

“It’s hard to tell. You don’t know, you really don’t know. You don’t know how they come together. You just don’t know. Because with Top Gun you have an actor who is iconic and brilliant. And how many movies he does before he does Top Gun, I can’t tell you. But we’re gonna reboot Pirates, so that is easier to put together because you don’t have to wait for certain actors.”

If Disney wants to completely reboot the “Pirates Of The Caribbean” franchise, it’s still possible that Margot Robbie could still be involved following her success with “Barbie”, she’s now a household name, and her take on the franchise would likely be so different to Captain Jack Sparrow, it might be able to connect with a new generation of fans.

It’s unclear what actors Jerry Bruckheimer was talking about when he referenced not waiting for certain actors, as that could be in reference to Johnny Depp or Margot Robbie.  So in some ways, rebooting with a fresh set of actors makes sense logistically, but would a film without Captain Jack Sparrow work?

Last year, it was revealed that the “Last of Us” creator, Craig Mazin, was working on a story with the original film’s writer, Ted Elliot. But due to last year’s strikes, everything got delayed.

“We pitched it and thought there’s no way they’re buying it, it’s too weird. And they did! And then we wrote a fantastic script and the strike happened and everyone’s waiting around,”

While we wait for a new “Pirates Of The Caribbean” film, you can catch the previous ones on Disney+ now.
