“Dancing With The Stars” Reveals Viewer Vote Details for First Time Ever
“Dancing With The Stars” launched back in 2005, and at that time, ABC had never revealed the number of viewers who had voted for particular celebrities. Meanwhile, in the United Kingdom, with the original show, “Strictly Come Dancing”, the BBC does reveal voting details after each season finishes.
But in a rare move, ABC has revealed some new voting details about a recent episode of “Dancing With The Stars”, which aired on September 24th 2024 and saw the convicted felon Anna Delvey voted out of the competition, along with “Beverly Hills, 90210” star Tori Spelling.
Hosted by Alfonso Ribeiro and Julianne Hough, the hit series pairs celebrities with trained ballroom dancers to compete in themed choreographed dance routines that are judged by a panel of renowned ballroom experts, including Carrie Ann Inaba, Bruno Tonioli and Derek Hough.
Disney has revealed that the two competitors received more than 14 million fan votes, breaking a record for the most votes in a single episode in the series’ history.
The previous record was held by season 12, which saw 22 million viewers watch NFL stars Hines Ward and Kym Johnson win the Mirror Ball trophy.
One of the show’s executive producers, Conrad Green, explained to Deadline:
“Viewers can vote multiple times, so if they’re particularly passionate about certain couples they can vote up to 10 times for each couple. The record number of votes that week suggests to me that a lot of our audience are very passionate about a lot of our stars this year, and the increased ratings year or year would suggest that it is the case.
At core, as always, the cast is what defines the season. This group of stars are really likable, talented and love being on the show — and that passion for what they’re doing really comes through on live TV. There’s real dance talent across the cast and lot of unique stories as well as so much potential in the couples to grow as performers.
Also, Dancing with the Stars is a really positive show at a time when the world is feeling pretty bleak, so there’s a certain escapism and sense of community that comes with watching which helps remind us of what we have in common as Americans. We’ve also been on air long enough now that a new generation viewers are watching with their kids and the popularity of the show on social apps like TikTok has exploded and introduced new viewers.”
Disney also revealed that the recent season premiere was watched by 32 million Total Viewers on ABC, Disney+, Hulu and digital platforms, in the first seven days.
BBC Studios Los Angeles Productions produces “Dancing with the Stars” in front of a live audience.
Previous episodes of “Dancing With The Stars” are available to stream now on Disney+ and Hulu. A new episode is streaming live on ABC and Disney+ on Tuesday evenings at 8 p.m. ET/PT in the United States and Canada.
