Disney+ is getting a massive expansion on Tuesday 23rd February, with hundreds of movies from 20th Century Studios, Searchlight Pictures and Touchstone heading to the streaming service as part of the new general entertainment brand “Star”.

With so many movies to choose from, I’ve picked out some of my favourite movies that are coming to Disney+.

Note: Not all of these movies are available in all countries.

Con Air

Cameron is a wrongly convicted prisoner who is going to be released when his plane is hijacked by other criminals. While they seize control of the plane, he attempts to wrest control and return home. It’s got a great soundtrack and is possibly one of Nicholas Cage’s greatest movies. This is one of my favourite action movies, and even though I’ve seen it dozens of times, I’m gonna be adding this on to my watchlist straight away.

Die Hard With A Vengeance

John McClane must enlist the help of Zeus Carver, a local shop owner, to stop Simon, a former colonel from East Germany, from detonating bombs across New York.    While I love the first Die Hard movie, the third movie is one of my favourite films, as the addition of Samuel L Jackson turned the franchise into a buddy cop film, which made it much more enjoyable.

The Rock

A dishonest Brigadier General, Frank Hummel threatens the government to launch rockets on the city of San Francisco. However, a mild-mannered chemist and an ex-convict team up to stop the general.  Another fantastic Nicholas Cage movie, but it’s Sean Connery that makes this one a must-watch.  This is easily one of my top movies of all time and a must-watch.

Starship Troopers

Johnny Rico completes his graduation and joins the Mobile Infantry to serve the nation. Soon, he finds himself fighting against alien bugs that are hell-bent on destroying life on Earth.  This film is completely over the top, and while the sequels are pretty bad, the action scenes are impressive, as it feels like a big epic video game.

Independence Day

An alien race destroys major cities of the world with their advanced weaponry. However, a geek, a pilot, the US President and a group of ragtag survivors unite to save mankind from annihilation.  This is one of the biggest summer blockbusters and helped position Will Smith as not just a Hollywood actor after years of him starring in “Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air”, but as a top draw.   It’s another favourite movie of mine, since this has everything I want from a film, explosions, aliens and a little bit of comedy.

Kingsman: The Secret Service

The story of a super-secret spy organization that recruits an unrefined but promising street kid into the agency’s ultra-competitive training program just as a global threat emerges from a twisted tech genius.  This is another big heavy-hitting action film that I loved, its brutal and reminds me of playing a video game.  It’s the exact opposite of everything that is on Disney+ pre “Star”, and its certainly something I’m going to be rewatching in the coming weeks.

Aliens

In deep space, the crew of the commercial starship Nostromo is awakened from their cryo-sleep capsules halfway through their journey home to investigate a distress call from an alien vessel. The terror begins when the crew encounters a nest of eggs inside the alien ship. An organism from inside an egg leaps out and attaches itself to one of the crew, causing him to fall into a coma.  There have been many Alien movies over the years, and “Aliens” still stands out to be the “one”.  With FX working on a new series, which will be a “Star Original”, the future is looking good for this franchise.

JoJo Rabbit

Hitler Youth cadet Jojo Betzler firmly believes in the ideals of Nazism manifested by his imaginary friend, Adolf Hitler. However, his foundations are shaken when he finds a Jewish girl in his house.  I wasn’t sure about how this movie was going to work, since the story just seems strange.  But I really enjoyed it, the humour is different and I’m looking forward to watching it again when it arrives on Disney+.

Predator

Dutch and his team are out on a mission to rescue a group of hostages in Central America. There, they discover that they are being targeted by an extraterrestrial warrior.  Another big franchise from the 80s that I love and the original movie is still the best.    It’s classic Arnie!

Deadpool

Deadpool tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humour, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.  With the MCU being so huge and interconnected, Deadpool, offers something completely different.  The comedy aspects are so unique, because Deadpool is such a weird character that shouldn’t make any sense but as a huge Ryan Reynolds fan, this is on my all-time favourite superhero films list.

“Star” is coming to Disney+ in the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and across Europe on Tuesday 23rd February.

What “Star” film are you looking forward to seeing on Disney+?
