One of the first major Disney+ Originals to be released on the then-new streaming service was, “The Falcon And The Winter Soldier”, which saw Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson, aka The Falcon, and Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, aka The Winter Soldier, team up on a global adventure that tests their abilities—and their patience.

The series went on to break viewership records on Disney+ and the show came to a close with Sam finally accepting his fate and taking up the mantle to become the new Captain America.  Many fans wondered when we might see Captain America and the Winter Soldier appear next and sadly, it won’t be in a second season of the show.

This is because both Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan are headlining two different Marvel films in 2025.  Anthony will be seen next in “Captain America: Brave New World”, which hits cinemas in February 2025, where we see how the world reacts to Sam Wilson becoming the new Captain America.  And Bucky Barnes will be seen in the upcoming movie, “Thunderbolts”, which is about a ragtag group of anti-heroes and villains being forced to save the world.

Recently, during an interview with the Radio Times to promote “Twisted Metal” arriving on Paramount+.  Anthony Mackie was asked about the possibility of doing a second season of “The Falcon And The Winter Soldier”, where he shared why he was hoping it was going to happen.

“The Falcon and [the] Winter Soldier, I really enjoyed doing that show. I was actually excited to do a second season, just so me and Sebastian [Stan] can get paid to hang out.  Because it’s like me, him and Daniel Brühl. It’s kind of like the perfect storm of happiness.”

Over the last year, we’ve heard a lot about how Disney is making Marvel Studios pull back on the number of releases it’s making, to focus on quality over quantity, reducing the amount of Disney+ shows and refocusing on theatrical releases, following the box office failure of its last few releases.

Anthony touched on this in his interview, about how Marvel has shifted its focus back to cinema releases for major Marvel characters.

“When they decided to go back to the movies, it is what it is, but I don’t have my friends anymore, so it kind of dampens it a little bit.”

While we might not see Captain America and Bucky together in 2025, there’s always the hope they reunite in the upcoming “Avengers: Secret War” films, but a second season of “The Falcon And The Winter Soldier” seems unlikely.

And while we wait, we do have the previous Captain America films and the whole season of “The Falcon And The Winter Soldier” to enjoy on Disney+.

Do you think we should get a second season of “The Falcon And The Winter Soldier”?  Let us know on social media!
