Hot on the heels of the news that ABC has passed on three new pilots, “The Hurt Unit“, “Keeping It Together“, and “Public Defenders,” it has also been revealed that ABC has passed on the pilot of “Judgement”.

With the writer’s strike underway, many new projects have been paused or cancelled. Also, Disney is drastically trying to reduce the amount of general entertainment content it makes for its linear and streaming networks to cut costs.

“Judgement” is a high-stakes legal soap that redefines the genre by playing out over two timelines. Fifteen years from now, a woman being vetted for a Supreme Court seat recounts her experience at a prominent D.C. law firm in 2023, where the only thing more controversial than the cases was her messy love life, caught between two feuding brothers. Now, with a Supreme Court seat on the line, all of her darkest secrets are at risk of coming out, threatening her nomination, her reputation, and her marriage.

Sarah Shahi, Reid Scott,  François Arnaud, Portia Doubleday, Christine Adams and Ken Kirby starred in the pilot.  The show was created by “Charmed” showrunner, Joey Falco, who will be writing and executive producing the show, along with Melvin Mar, Jake Kasdan and Jordan Cerf. Paul McGuigan directs and also executive produces.

The pilot was ordered back in December, but the good news is that 20th Television is trying to shop the project around to other studios/networks, so there is a small possibility that the project may continue.   20th Television previously shopped around “True Lies” after being passed over, which was picked up by Paramount+/CBS in the US and released internationally on Disney+.  However, with many studios and platforms cutting back on how many shows are being funded, it maybe less likely that a passed-over pilot is picked up by another network.
