When Is “Rental Family” Coming To Disney+ & Hulu?
Just in time for Thanksgiving, Searchlight Pictures is bringing an alternative family story to our screens with “Rental Family”.
Set in modern-day Tokyo, the film follows an American actor, who struggles to find purpose until he lands an unusual gig: working for a Japanese “rental family” agency, playing stand-in roles for strangers. As he immerses himself in his clients’ worlds, he begins to form genuine bonds that blur the lines between performance and reality. Confronting the moral complexities of his work, he rediscovers purpose, belonging, and the quiet beauty of human connection.
“Rental Family” has been directed by HIKARI, who also wrote the screenplay with Stephen Blahut. The film stars Brendan Fraser, Takehiro Hira, Mari Yamamoto, Shannon Gorman, and Akira Emoto.
When Is “Rental Family” Released?
“Rental Family” is being released exclusively in theatres in the United States and Canada on November 21st 2025. It will be coming to cinemas in the UK on January 9th 2026, and on Boxing Day in Australia/New Zealand.
When Will “Rental Family” Be On Disney+ & Hulu?
Currently, no official Disney+ or Hulu release date has yet been announced.
As with other Searchlight Pictures movies, expect to see the film made available around three months after its theatrical release. So it’s likely we will see “Rental Family” arrive on Hulu and Hulu On Disney+ in the United States and on Disney+ in Canada in late February. Though, because the film will arrive over a month later in some countries, such as the UK and Australia, it will be unlikely to arrive on Disney+ until around April.

Disney+ updates daily at the following times:

- Eastern Time: 03:00 AM
- UK: 08:00 AM
- Sydney, Australia – 19:00 PM
