Super Bowl 56 is this weekend and there is football fever all over the United States in anticipation of the Big Game. While the rest of the world does not care about American football, it’s one of the biggest nights of the year. Between the game, the parties and the commercials, Super Bowl Sunday is a major event for the United States. And Disney+ has several football movies and shorts available in the United States. We’ll look at some you can watch to get in the mood for the Big Game.

9. HOW TO PLAY FOOTBALL

This 1944 animated short stars Goofy as a football player. He takes all the places on both teams and demonstrates the game of football with varying results. He also has many problems with the coach and the goal posts. It’s only 8 minutes long and brings some of Goofy’s classic humor to the most popular sport in the United States.

8. GUS

This 1976 film follow the fictional California Atoms who are last place in the National Football league. But the team’s fortune changes when they added a mule who can kick a field goal from 100 yards away with incredible accuracy. The comedy stars several comedy legends including Don Knotts, Tim Conway and Dick Van Patten.

7. THE GAME PLAN

The Rock show off his charisma and his football skills in this 2007 comedy. He plays a superstar football player with a huge ego. But, as he prepares for the championship game, the daughter he didn’t know he had re-enters his life and eventually changes him into a family man. It’s not the Rock’s best football film, but it’s the best one available on Disney+.

6. REMEMBER THE TITANS

At the height of the Civil Rights movement, a newly integrates high school football team must learn to work together while playing teams that have not been integrated yet in an effort to chase down the state championship. This is one of the best movies Disney has ever made, period. It’s based on the true story of the integration of T.C. Williams High School in Virginia.

5. SAFETY

This Disney+ Original Movie follows former Clemson University football player Ray McElrathbey as he helps take care of his 11-year-old brother while still going to college and standing out for the football team.

4. INVINCIBLE

Mark Wahlberg stars Vince Papale, a former athlete who attends an open tryout for the entire city of Philadelphia in an attempt to make the Eagles. In a surprise, he ends up making the team and playing in the NFL for three seasons. It’s loosely based on the true story of Papale.

3. DEION’S DOUBLE PLAY

This ESPN 30 for 30 documentary follows the two-sport career of Deion Sanders, who once famously played in a football game and a World Series baseball game on the same day. Deion would go on to win two Super Bowls in his career, one with the San Francisco 49ers and one with the Dallas Cowboys.

2. THE BOOK OF MANNING

This ESPN Films documentary follows the Manning family and tracks their success in the NFL. It starts with the patriarch, Archie Manning, and his success in college before being drafted by the New Orleans Saints. It then follows his sons, Peyton and Eli, as they navigate top level college football, get drafted to the NFL and appear in six Super Bowls, winning four of them.

1. FOUR FALLS OF BUFFALO

This ESPN 30 for 30 documentary looks at the Buffalo Bills run of dominance in the NFL’s American Football Conference in the early 1990s, its four consecutive Super Bowl appearances, and the heartbreak at the end of each of the four seasons as the Bills came up short every time.

Those are just some of the football themed movies and shorts you can watch on Disney+ this Super Bowl weekend. There are also plenty of football themed episodes of classic TV shows on Disney+ as well.
