Disney’s 20th Animation has picked up a brand new animated project called “Bad Friends”, which is based on the popular podcast of the same name by Andrew Santino and Bobby Lee.

“Bad Friends” follows the relationship between Andrew, a fiery lightning bug, and Bobby, a shy rolly polly, as they navigate the treacherous waters of being adolescent misfit bugs in high school.

The animated series is now in development and it has been created by Andrew and Bobby, along with Nick Kreiss, who will write the potential series with Andrew.

According to Deadline, the three will all be executive producers, along with Trevor Engelson from Underground and Doug Banker from Five All In The Fifth. Salaff is a co-executive producer.

Disney beat out other major adultianimated players, who were also intrested in picking up the project. Disney has been having lots of success with its adult-animated series like “Solar Opposites”, “Family Guy” and “Futurama”, so is constantly on the lookout for new shows.

Since 20th Animation is creating the series for Hulu, we should also expect to see the show released as a Star Original on Disney+ around the world.

Roger’s Take: While 20th Animation already has a large library of existing animated hits, I think its important that Disney continues to look for new shows, especially those who will appeal to younger adults, since comedy tastes do vary through the different generations. It’ll probably be a while until we see this series hit our screens, but I’m always looking forward to seeing what 20th Animation is up to.
