Disney is once again digging around in the back catalogue at 20th Century Studios for its next big hit as THR has reported that a remake of the cult sci-fi movie, “Enemy Mine”.

The original movie was released in 1985 and starred Dennis Quaid and Louis Gossett Jr.  It was based on a novella by the sci-fi author Barry B. Longyear.

It told the story of a soldier from Earth crashlands on an alien world after sustaining battle damage. Eventually, he encounters another survivor, but from the enemy species he was fighting, they band together to survive in this hostile world. In the end, the human finds himself caring for his enemy in a completely unexpected way.

This new remake will be created by Terry Matalas, who was the showrunner on the final season of “Star Trek: Picard”, along with the fourth season of “MacGyver” and the “12 Monkeys” series.  He will also be the showrunner on the upcoming Marvel Studios Disney+ series, “Vision Quest”.

20th Century Studios is developing the movie, though no producer or director are currently involved in the project.  With the movie still in the very early stages of development, no other details, such as the plot of the film or if it will be released in cinemas first, have been revealed.

Currently, the original film, “Enemy Mine,” is not available to stream on Hulu or Disney+ around the world, so hopefully, if the movie goes ahead, the original will also get a streaming release to remind fans of the film.
