Searchlight Pictures’ next big theatrical release is “Next Goal Wins”, which tells the story of the American Samoa soccer team, who suffered the worst loss in World Cup history, losing to Australia 31-0 in 2001. With the 2014 World Cup approaching, the team recruits a down on his luck, maverick coach to help turn their fate around.

The film stars Michael Fassbender, Elisabeth Moss, Oscar Kightley, David Fane, Beulah Koale, Lehi Falepapalangi, Semu Filipo, Uli Latukefu, Rachel House and Kaimana.

It has been directed by Taika Waititi, who is also producing the movie alongside Jonathan Cavendish and Garrett Basch, with Andy Serkis, Will Tennant, and Kathryn Dean serving as executive producers. Additional producers include Mike Brett and Steve Jamison, who directed the 2014 documentary from which the film is based.

When Is “Next Goal Wins” Released?

“Next Goal Wins” is going to be released exclusively in cinemas first. However, as with many Searchlight Pictures’ films, the global release schedule varies between countries.

“Next Goal Wins” will be released in cinemas in the United States and Canada on November 17th 2023

In the United Kingdom and Ireland, “Next Goal Wins” will be released in cinemas on Boxing Day, the 26th of December 2023.

While in Australia, there will be a little longer wait, since the film will be released in cinemas on New Year’s Day, the 1st of January 2024.

In New Zealand, “Next Goal Wins” will be released in cinemas on December 7, 2023.

When Will “Next Goal Wins” Be On Disney+?

Currently, no official Disney+ release date has yet been announced.

With the film having a stretched-out release date over the holiday season, this will drastically change how quickly the film will be available on Disney+ around the world, and we will likely see a similar stretched-out release schedule globally to maximise the box office returns during the holidays.

In the United States, the earliest “Next Goal Wins” could be released on Hulu is New Year’s Day, which is 45 days after the theatrical release.  But both “Chevalier” and “Theater Camp” took almost 60 days to be released on Hulu.  So this makes a January release much more likely.  With the introduction of Hulu on Disney+ in December, when the film is released on Hulu, expect it to also be available on Disney+ for Hulu subscribers too.

In Canada, it’ll likely be released on Disney+ on the same day as when it’s released in the US.

Meanwhile, across the pond in the UK and Ireland, with the film’s theatrical release being held back until Boxing Day, it’s likely that “Next Goal Wins” won’t arrive on Disney+ until late February at the earliest.

This will likely be a similar release date for Australia and New Zealand, where Searchlight Pictures’ will want to keep the film in cinemas as long as possible.

What Time Will “Next Goal Wins” Be Released On Disney+

Disney+ updates daily at the following times:

  • Pacific Time: 00:00 AM / Midnight
  • Eastern Time: 03:00 AM
  • UK: 08:00 AM
  • Sydney, Australia – 19:00 PM

Sometimes films can arrive a few minutes later as the servers update. The Disney+ front page usually updates about an hour later.
