Searchlight Pictures’ latest film, “Chevalier”, has been inspired by the incredible true story of composer Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges. The illegitimate son of an African slave and a French plantation owner, Bologne rises to improbable heights in French society as a celebrated violinist-composer and fencer, complete with an ill-fated love affair and a falling out with Marie Antoinette herself and her court.

The film stars Kelvin Harrison Jr., Samara Weaving, Lucy Boynton, Minnie Driver, Sian Clifford, Alex Fitzalan and Ronkẹ Adékoluẹjo. Directed by Stephen Williams, the film is written by Stefani Robinson and produced by Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe at Element Pictures, Stefani Robinson, and Dianne McGunigle. Production designer Karen Murphy, director of photography Jess Hall, composer Michael Abels, costume designer Oliver García, editor John Axelrad and set decorator Lotty Sanna round out the production team.

When Is “Chevalier” Released?

“Chevalier” is getting a gradual global release in cinemas, with the film arriving in theatres in the United States and Canada on Friday 21st April 2023. The film arrives in the UK and Ireland on June 9th 2023. While in Australia and New Zealand, the film arrives in cinemas on the 18th May 2023.

When Will “Chevalier” Be On Disney+?

Currently, no official Disney+ release date has yet been announced.

With this film being released by Searchlight Pictures, in the United States, based on previous movie releases, it’s likely that this film will be released on Hulu. However, with the film having a PG-13 rating and the film being one of the first Searchlight Pictures films not included in the long-running HBO deal that expired at the end of 2022, it’s possible, this film might also be released on Disney+ in the US too.

Internationally in countries like the UK, Canada and Australia, things are much more simpler, as we should expect the film to arrive on Disney+ once it’s completed its theatrical run, which is likely to be around 45 days after its initial cinema release based on previous films like “The Menu”. Looking at the last Searchlight Pictures release, “Rye Lane”, which had a theatrical release window in the UK of just over 45 days.   While Disney is extending the amount of time a film is in cinemas for major blockbusters, for Searchlight Pictures films, they have a smaller budget and will likely continue to have shorter release windows.

However, it’s important to note that the film is being released in cinemas around the world at different times, so this will also impact when “Chevalier” will get a Disney+ release date. Just as an estimate, I’d predict that “Chevalier” might arrive on Disney+ around:

  • US/Canada – Early June 2023
  • Australia/New Zealand – Early July 2023
  • UK/Ireland – Late July 2023

Is “Chevalier” Coming To Disney+ Premier Access?

Disney has confirmed that following the release of “Jungle Cruise”, it won’t be using Disney+ Premier Access, instead offering selected movies exclusively in cinemas first, before being released on Disney’s streaming services.

What Time Will “Chevalier” Be Released On Disney+

Disney+ updates daily at the following times:

  • Pacific Time: 00:00 AM / Midnight
  • Eastern Time: 03:00 AM
  • UK: 08:00 AM
  • Sydney, Australia – 19:00 PM

Sometimes films can arrive a few minutes later as the servers update. The Disney+ front page usually updates about an hour later.
