This weekend is one of the biggest of the year, with the Super Bowl, which will see the San Francisco 49ers take on the Kansas City Chiefs. More than 100 million viewers are set to tune in and this is why the major studios use the event as a way of promoting their latest movies and shows.

While Disney has a lighter theatrical slate than it has in previous years, Disney is still expected to drop some trailers during the big game.

Here are my predictions for Disney’s Super Bowl trailers:

Deadpool 3

With only one film coming from Marvel Studios this year and with “Deadpool 3” likely to be one of the biggest films of the year, it’s very likely we get our first official look at the return of Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, who are both making their Marvel Cinematic Universe debuts.

Filming on “Deadpool 3” has recently wrapped, plus the team had months to work on post-production during the Hollywood strikes, so it’s likely the majority of the film’s special effects are completed.

The unique marketing of previous “Deadpool” films also gives us a higher chance of a trailer since they could literally just have Ryan standing in his suit, with a brief cameo from Hugh as Wolverine, and it’ll still blow up the internet.

“Deadpool 3” is set to premiere in cinemas on July 26th 2024

Inside Out 2

This summer, Pixar is releasing its next big film, “Inside Out 2” in cinemas, and Disney is in desperate need of a major box office win, especially with an animated film, so it’s very likely Disney will drop a new trailer for “Inside Out 2”, to get the general audience aware this film is coming to cinemas this summer.

In this new film, we return to the mind of newly minted teenager Riley just as headquarters is undergoing a sudden demolition to make room for something entirely unexpected: new Emotions! Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust, who’ve long been running a successful operation by all accounts, aren’t sure how to feel when Anxiety shows up. And it looks like she’s not alone. Maya Hawke lends her voice to Anxiety, alongside Amy Poehler as Joy, Phyllis Smith as Sadness, Lewis Black as Anger, Tony Hale as Fear, and Liza Lapira as Disgust.

Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes

In May, 20th Century Studios is bringing back the epic franchise with a brand new movie set several generations in the future following Caesar’s reign, in which apes are the dominant species living harmoniously and humans have been reduced to living in the shadows. As a new tyrannical ape leader builds his empire, one young ape undertakes a harrowing journey that will cause him to question all that he has known about the past and to make choices that will define a future for apes and humans alike.

This new film is set to arrive in cinemas on May 10th, 2024, so a Super Bowl promotion will help get more people aware this movie is coming out in a few month’s time.

Hulu On Disney+ / Disney Streaming Bundle

In March, Hulu On Disney+ is officially launching, and the Super Bowl is the ideal situation to let the US audience know that Hulu and Disney+ are coming together. Disney can use this trailer to highlight all of the biggest new shows and films that are coming, such as “Wish”, “Shogun”, “Skeleton Crew”, etc. Plus, they showcase some of the most significant recent hits like “The Marvels”, “The Bear”, “Indiana Jones”, and “Only Murders In The Building”, etc.

In the past, Disney has launched a short generic Disney+ promo to highlight some of the big new releases heading to Disney+ and Hulu in the year ahead, and it wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see something similar. Showcasing titles like “Star Wars: Skeleton Crew”, “Star Wars: The Acolyte”, and “Agatha: Darkhold Diaries” from the Disney+ side, while also showcasing some of the big upcoming Hulu Originals.

While dropping a trailer for the new “X-Men 97” animated series would be nice, the costs of running an advert during the Super Bowl for a revived Saturday morning cartoon seems unlikely.

Disney will want to highlight that Hulu and Disney+ are coming together, so I’d be very surprised if we didn’t get some short promo, with maybe our first looks at some upcoming major projects, but focusing on the most popular shows/films.

The Omen

On April 5th, 20th Century Studios is releasing its latest horror film based on the classic “Omen” franchise. The film tells the story of what happens when a young American woman is sent to Rome to begin a life of service to the church, she encounters a darkness that causes her to question her own faith and uncovers a terrifying conspiracy that hopes to bring about the birth of evil incarnate.

Unfortunately, due to this being a much lower budget film, it’s unlikely that Disney is going to want to spend a fortune on advertising this film. But there is still a possiblity of a small trailer to try to drum up excitement for the next big release.
