It’s the weekend and it’s also a long weekend for many with Memorial Weekend in the United States and Spring Bank Holiday in the UK, so many of us have a little more time to check out some new content on Disney+.

Here are a few of my suggestions for what to watch on Disney+ this weekend:

The Beach Boys

This new documentary is a celebration of the legendary band that revolutionized pop music, and the iconic, harmonious sound they created that personified the California dream, captivating fans for generations and generations to come. The documentary traces the band from humble family beginnings and features never-before-seen footage and all-new interviews with band members and other luminaries in the music business.

As a fan of the band since I was a kid, I knew nothing about the Beach Boys before watching this documentary. I really enjoyed learning about their history, from their origins to their explosion in popularity in the 1960s and their fading away in the 1970s. This certainly is an easy recommendation for fans of the band or for those who want to learn a little more about them.

Doctor Who

This week has seen a new episode of “Doctor Who” drop onto Disney+ around the world.  The new show sees the Doctor and Ruby landing on the Welsh coast, where they embark on the strangest journey of their lives. In a rain-lashed pub, the locals sit in fear of ancient legends coming to life.

I’ve been away for the past week, so I’m a little behind on my “Doctor Who” episodes, but as a fan of the show for decades, I’ve got a couple of episodes to watch this weekend, and I can’t wait to jump back into this crazy and quirky sci-fi series.

Assembled: The Making Of “X-Men ’97”

This week saw the release of a new “Assembled” documentary, which takes a look at the creation of the “X-Men ’97” series.  Plus it also goes into a little detail on the creation of the original show.

In the early 1990s, few beyond those who journeyed into the pages of Marvel comics had ever heard of “Rogue,” “Beast,” “Gambit,” or even “Wolverine.” But that sad state of affairs changed forever when “X-Men: The Animated Series” debuted on television and touched millions hungry for something different. The series was unlike any cartoon that had come before it, exploring themes of prejudice and social justice. The characters were super, but they were also outsiders, underdogs. Kids everywhere could relate – as well as adults. “Assembled” recalls the birth of “X-Men: The Animated Series” and its revival thirty years later as “X-Men ’97.” Spend time with the original cast members, along with new voices, as they reveal the stories behind the classic show and its uncompromising continuation.

As a teenage who was introduced to the “X-Men” through the original 90s animated series and someone who has really enjoyed the recent season, I thought this documentary did a good job in sharing some behind the scenes details, though as you might expect, it was a little glossy.

The Kardashians – Season 5

This week saw the return of everyone’s favourite family, “The Kardashians” (I jest because if I mention this show in our Disney+ Facebook Group, it never goes down well!).   In the season 5 premiere, Kourtney navigates her pregnancy while Kris plans the perfect baby shower. Khloé is presented with a fresh start while facing pressure from Kim to change her ways. Kendall and Kylie make time for an overdue sisterly catch-up in Paris.

“The Kardashians” are my secret pleasure, it’s a show I watch with my wife, and I don’t know why I like it, they don’t live in the real world and most of what they do is totally crazy, but it’s like a car crash on the side of the motorway, you can’t help but look!

The fifth season is available on Hulu and Hulu On Disney+ in the United States and on Disney+ around the world.
