What To Watch On Disney+ This Halloween

To get you into the spirit for the spooky season, Disney+ has a wide selection of films and shows available that either are set during the Halloween season, or just have that little spark that feels right at this time of year.    I’ve pulled out five titles from Disney+ that I’m planning on watching during October to get me ready for the spookiest night of the year.

Here are my top five things to watch on Disney+ this Halloween:

Hocus Pocus

One of the most popular films available to stream on Disney+ is “Hocus Pocus”, which returns to the top of the streaming chart every year, as audiences return year after year to relive their nostalgia.  In this film, three outlandishly wild witches return from 17th-century Salem after they’re accidentally conjured up by some unsuspecting pranksters. It’s a night full of zany fun and comic chaos once the tricky 300-year-old trio set out to cast a spell on the town and reclaim their youth…but first they must get their act together and outwit three kids and a talking cat.   You can also find the sequel, “Hocus Pocus 2”, available to stream exclusively on Disney+.

The Nightmare Before Christmas

One of the most popular films for the holidays is the stop-motion animated film, “The Nightmare Before Christmas”, which is set in an extraordinary world filled with magic and wonder, where every holiday has its own special land. This is the heartfelt tale of Jack Skellington, the Pumpkin King of Halloween Town and all things that go bump in the night. Bored with the same old tricks and treats, he yearns for something more, and soon stumbles upon the glorious magic of Christmas Town. When Jack decides to bring this joyful holiday back to Halloween Town, his dream to fill Santa’s shoes unravels, and it’s up to Sally, the rag doll who loves him, to stitch things together again.     This classic animated film can also be a nice step into the Christmas season, especially if you watch it later in October.

Agatha All Along

Just ahead of the release of the new Marvel Studios series, “Vision Quest”, which is the third instalment in the “WandaVision” trilogy, it’s a great time to revisit “Agatha All Along”.    In this series, the infamous Agatha Harkness finds herself down and out of power after a suspicious goth Teen helps break her free from a distorted spell. Her interest is piqued when he begs her to take him on the legendary Witches’ Road, a magical gauntlet of trials that, if survived, rewards a witch with what they’re missing. Together, Agatha and this mysterious Teen pull together a desperate coven, and set off down, down, down The Road….  I’d also recommend checking out “WandaVision” before watching this show if you have time.

Haunted Mansion

Inspired by the classic theme park attraction, “Haunted Mansion” tells the story of Gabbie, a single mom, who discovers that the home she and her son share is haunted by irksome ghosts. Hoping to restore domestic tranquillity, Gabbie recruits a motley crew of so-called spiritual experts to help rid the house of the supernatural squatters.  As a huge fan of this attraction (I always have to go on it every time I visit), this is such a great movie to get me in the Halloween spirit, as there’s just something so iconic about the music and vibe of the “Haunted Mansion”, which this movie manages to pull off.  It also has an all-star cast that delivers a fantastic spooky adventure for everyone to enjoy at this time of the year.

Marvel Zombies

In this animated adventure series set in the multiverse as a spin-off from an episode of “What If? tells the story of what happens after the Avengers are overtaken by a zombie plague. A desperate group of survivors discovers the key to bringing an end to the super-powered undead, racing across a dystopian landscape and risking life and limb to save their world.

“Marvel Zombies” is a fun four-part series with a little twist, as it’s rated R, with lots of violence and blood, so it won’t be for everyone in the family.  I have always enjoyed one-shot comic books, and this feels very much like that within the larger MCU, which has become a little too safe and family-friendly.    If you’re in the mood for a little more horror from Marvel, check out the Disney+ Original special, “Werewolf By Night”.
