Wayne Brady Gives Update On Upcoming Hulu Reality Series
Last summer, it was revealed that Hulu was creating a new unscripted reality series, which will feature Wayne Brady and his family.
Everyone knows Wayne Brady – actor, comedian, host, singer and preeminent multihyphenate of this generation. But there’s more to the man seen onstage. What happens when an entertainer so iconic peels back the curtain on the realities of an unexpected life? In “Untitled Wayne Brady & Family Project” (working title), Brady has turned the term “modern family” on its head. He’s still best friends with his ex-wife, soulmate and business partner, Mandie Taketa.
Together, they co-parent their 20-year-old daughter, Maile Brady, a student and aspiring artist, as well as running their production company, A Wayne & Mandie Creative (“Wayne Brady’s Comedy IQ”). Jason Fordham, Mandie’s life partner of 12 years, handles the family’s cinematography and post-production; and Mandie and Jason recently expanded their already blended family with the birth of their son, Sundance-Isamu.
Recently, Wayne Brady spoke with Deadline to promote the 60th broadcast anniversary of the CBS show, “Let’s Make a Deal”, where he was asked about his upcoming reality series.
It’s in the can. We’re putting the finishing touches on it right now. It’s called Wayne Brady: The Family Remix, and it is the coolest feeling to be able to work on a project like this with my family. It’s basically about my version of family, which is my ex-wife, who’s also my business partner. We have our production company together and we have our daughter who’s just turning 21. And then ex-wife’s partner, Jason, is an integral part of our family. Jason works with our company. Together, the two of them have a beautiful child named Sundance. So this is what family is, it’s unorthodox. People will get a chance to see what makes us tick. I’m an insanely private person, but I’ve decided to share pieces of my life now because I also think that it’s time to make new normals that don’t just settle for the old paradigms in your job or home life.
The untitled show is being created by Fremantle and A Wayne & Mandie Creative, the joint production company founded by Wayne Brady and Mandie Taketa.
No launch date for Hulu will be announced later, and it’s still unclear if this series will also be released internationally as a Star Original on Disney+.
