Last year, it was revealed that Disney was working with Wanye Brady on a brand new reality series. Now, Disney has announced some more details on the unscripted reality series, “Wayne Brady: The Family Remix,” which will be released sometime during the summer.

Originally, the show was going to be released directly on Hulu, but now the show will premiere on the Freeform channel in the US first and will also be available on Hulu and Hulu On Disney+ the day after.  I’d also expect this series to be released as a Star Original on Disney+ internationally.   This marks the first show commissioned by Hulu to air first on linear but continues a new trend of Disney trying to utilise its content across more platforms to get more value for money and more viewers.

According to the official description, the series looks at what happens when an entertainer so iconic peels back the curtain on the realities of an unexpected life? In “Wayne Brady: The Family Remix,” Brady has turned the term “modern family” on its head. He’s still best friends with his ex-wife, soulmate, and business partner, Mandie Taketa.

Together, they co-parent their 21-year-old daughter, Maile Brady, a student and aspiring artist, as well as running their production company, A Wayne & Mandie Creative (“Wayne Brady’s Comedy IQ”). Jason Fordham, Mandie’s life partner since 2009, handles the family’s cinematography and post-production; and Mandie and Jason have an almost 3-year-old son, Sundance-Isamu.

“Wayne Brady: The Family Remix” is a production of Fremantle and A Wayne & Mandie Creative.  The show will consist of eight episodes.

The Freeform channel has been experiencing many changes as the importance of linear channels decreases, especially following Disney’s new carriage deal with Charter. This deal removed Freeform from Spectrum cable platforms, which is likely to be followed by other cable providers. Freeform is generally moving away from scripted drama and filling its schedule with new unscripted content.
