Top 10 Marvel Disney+ Shows Ranked
With the release of “Agatha All Along” on Disney+, this marks the tenth live-action show to be released on Disney+ and a perfect time to take a look back and rank them according to my own preference.
Over the past four years, we’ve seen a wide range of new characters introduced into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as well as seeing many established characters from the films transition to the smaller screen to explore new stories.
Here are my top ten Marvel Disney+ shows ranked:
10) Echo
Kicking off the list is “Echo”, which is a spin-off from the “Hawkeye” series that tells the story of how Maya Lopez’s ruthless behaviour in New York City finally catches up with her in her hometown; she must face her past, reconnect with her Native American roots and embrace the meaning of family and community.
I did enjoy this five-episode series, which is interconnected with Kingpin and Daredevil storylines, especially as it pushes the boundaries for Marvel by moving into the mature rating for the first time. But it’s also my least favourite from those released so far.
9) Agatha All Along
The latest series to arrive on Disney+ sees the infamous Agatha Harkness find herself down and out of power after a suspicious goth Teen helps break her free from a distorted spell. Her interest is piqued when he begs her to take him on the legendary Witches’ Road, a magical gauntlet of trials that, if survived, rewards a witch with what they’re missing. Together, Agatha and this mysterious Teen pull together a desperate coven, and set off down, down, down The Road…
This “WandaVision” spin-off does feel more like a traditional television series, compared to the other shows released so far. I’ve enjoyed the episodes I’ve seen so far, but there are still plenty of episodes to go, which could indicate where this series is ranked in the future since Marvel doesn’t always hit the landing.
8) Secret Invasion
Set in the present-day MCU, Nick Fury learns of a clandestine invasion of Earth by a faction of shapeshifting Skrulls. Fury joins his allies, including Everett Ross, Maria Hill and the Skrull Talos, who has made a life for himself on Earth. Together, they race against time to thwart the imminent Skrull invasion and save humanity.
As one of my favourite comic book series, the “Secret Invasion” series failed to click; after a strong start, it did fail to hit the landing, as it just wasn’t able to recreate the suspense of an alien race hiding in plain sight.
7) Hawkeye
This series is set in post-blip New York City, where former Avenger Clint Barton, aka Hawkeye, has a seemingly simple mission: get back to his family for Christmas. But when a threat from his past shows up, Hawkeye reluctantly teams up with Kate Bishop, a 22-year-old skilled archer and his biggest fan, to unravel a criminal conspiracy.
There are plenty of things with the “Hawkeye” series that I liked, such as having more time with Hawkeye since he is the only Avenger that didn’t get their own movie. The introduction of Kate Bishop is easily the highlight of this series and the return of the Kingpin was great, but it wasn’t perfect.
6) Ms Marvel
This fantastic series introduces a brand new character into the MCU and set up the events of “The Marvels”. The show is about Kamala, who is a superhero fan with an imagination, particularly when it comes to Captain Marvel; Kamala feels like she doesn’t fit in at school and sometimes even at home, that is until she gets superpowers like the heroes she’s looked up to.
“Ms Marvel” is one of my favourite shows so far, and Iman Vellani, who plays Ms Marvel is the biggest highlight of the show and the more of this character we see in future movies and shows, the better.
5) She-Hulk: Attorney At Law
This comedy series tells the story of Jennifer Walters, who has a complicated life as a single, 30-something attorney who also happens to be a green 6-foot-7-inch superpowered hulk. This is one of the most unique shows that have been released so far, since it leans in much more of taking advantage of being a TV show, with shorter single stories, but still featuring a larger overall storyline. It’s not going to work for everyone, but I really liked this show, and with so many cameos, “She-Hulk” is well worth investigating.
4) The Falcon And The Winter Soldier
This series takes two characters we’ve seen in the Captain America movies, Falcon and the Winter Soldier, who are a mismatched duo who team up for a global adventure that will test their survival skills — as well as their patience. This series acts as a origin story of who the Falcon becomes the new Captain America and makes it a must watch ahead of the release of “Captain America: Brave New World”.
3) Moon Knight
This series was my first introduction to Moon Knight, and sees Oscar Isaac play the role of Steven Grant and mercenary Marc Spector investigate the mysteries of the Egyptian gods from inside the same body. I loved watching “Moon Knight” and while I think it could have done with a couple more episodes, or slightly longer episodes to explore the character more.
2) WandaVision
The very first Marvel Studios series to be release and it set the standard for what was to follow, which I don’t think many have done. This series embraced the concept of being a TV series, rather than a film and saw. Vision and Wanda live a normal life in Westview and conceal their superpowers. However, as decades pass by, they start doubting that everything is not what it seems.
“WandaVision” is without doubt one of the best shows, not just on Disney+ or from Marvel Studios, but across every platform or channel.
1) Loki
Without a doubt, my favourite show from Marvel in the Disney+ era is “Loki”, and it’s also the only show to have a second season. The series is set after the events of the “Avengers” movie, where after stealing the Tesseract, Loki comes into contact with a mysterious organization called the TVA, that gives him an ominous ultimatum: either fix the timeline or cease to exist completely.
There are many fantastic things about this series. The cast is incredible, especially with the inclusion of Owen Wilson as Mobius, the agent who is dealing with Loki’s case. “Loki” also manages to successfully move from the big screen to a streaming series; with its high production values and fantastic story, this is a must-watch, especially as it is the anchor point for the entire Multiverse saga.
