With 2020 coming to an end, it’s always a good time to take a look back at what shows people have been watching on Disney+ through the year around the globe.

Each week, I post my own weekly look at the Disney+ trending chart, but this data has been collated by Flixpatrol who monitor details on what are the most popular movies and TV series on a variety of different streaming services on a daily basis from around the world.

This data indicates how long they’ve been in the top 10s chart throughout the year, but it gives us a clearer idea of what people have been watching the most.

Here are the top 25 series from 2020 for the whole world:

  1. The Simpsons
  2. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse
  3. Star Wars: The Mandalorian
  4. Jessie
  5. Star Wars: The Clone Wars
  6. Phineas & Ferb
  7. Once Upon A Time
  8. Puppy Dog Pals
  9. Star Wars: Rebels
  10. Marvel’s Agents of Shield
  11. The Right Stuff
  12. The Wonderful World Of Mickey Mouse
  13. Hannah Montana
  14. A.N.T Farm
  15. Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian

  21. On Pointe
  22. Doc McStuffins
  23. Bluey
  24. Muppets Now
  25. The Imagineering Story

Looking at the top 25 shows of the year, when compared to the most popular list of movies for 2020, Disney+ Originals make up over a third of the chart.  Showing why Disney is much more focused on creating shows for Disney+ rather than movies.

“Star Wars: The Mandalorian” was the most popular Disney+ Original series, with many other shows also making the list, including “The Right Stuff”, which is great to see, as hopefully, this sends a strong signal to Disney+ chiefs that these shows are popular to create more.

Star Wars as a whole has had a massive impact on the biggest shows of the year, with 4 different titles within the top 25 shows.  We should expect Marvel to have an even bigger footprint on this trending chart next year with at least 6 different Marvel shows arriving.

It’s not a huge surprise to see “The Simpsons” at the top of the chart globally, with over 30 seasons and a vast library of 700+ episodes, its been consistently in the top end of the trending chart since Disney+ launched.

“Mickey Mouse Clubhouse” has an advantage in the trending chart as its a show that children will watch repeatedly, so it’s very possible that some kids have watched the same episode every day of the year! Something a documentary wouldn’t be able to achieve.

One title that stood out was “Oye Golu“, which is Disney animated series in India, with a third of Disney+ subscribers being in India, this shows the popularity of the show.

There are some regional differences between the countries, most of which are just the same shows in a slightly different order.

  5. Star Wars: The Clone Wars
  6. Phineas & Ferb
  7. Once Upon A Time
  8. Puppy Dog Pals
  9. Hannah Montana
  10. Star Wars: Rebels

From this data, it’s clear that in 2020, Disney+ subscribers were watching both well-known shows and Disney+ Original shows.

It also shows the importance of shows aimed at small children, as many of the most popular shows of the year have massive audience appeal and repeat value to younger viewers.

While National Geographic has a huge library of content available on Disney+, none of its library content was able to crack the top 25, with just two brand new series, “The Right Stuff” and “Magic Of Disney’s Animal Kingdom” making the list.  Though there are some more regional availability issues with Nat Geo content due to existing streaming deals.

What did you watch in 2020 on Disney+?
