“Tell Me Lies” Showrunner Gives An Update On A Third Season
With just a few episodes left of the second season of the hit drama series, “Tell Me Lies”, many fans have been wondering if there is going to be a third season.
“Tell Me Lies” follows a tumultuous but intoxicating relationship as it unfolds over the course of 8 years. When Lucy Albright (Grace Van Patten) and Stephen DeMarco (Jackson White) meet at college, they are at that formative age when seemingly mundane choices lead the way to irrevocable consequences. Although their relationship begins like any typical campus romance, they quickly fall into an addictive entanglement that will permanently alter not only their lives, but the lives of everyone around them.
The series stars Grace Van Patten, Jackson White, Cat Missal, Spencer House, Sonia Mena, Branden Cook, Alicia Crowder, and Tom Ellis. Thomas Doherty is a recurring guest star.
Meaghan Oppenheimer serves as executive producer & showrunner, and during a recent interview on DC Film Girl, she shared an update on a potential third season,
“It’s definitely still a create process. I had more of Season 2 figures out from the beginning. Season 3 is definitely more uncharted territory. But I have–there are a lot of ideas of what could happen. I think that certain characters definitely deserve justice that I think needs to happen if there’s a Season 3… I think there’s always more story to tell.”
It’s not uncommon for creators to start planning on future seasons before a renewal or cancellation decision has been decided, since usually the studios like to hold out to see how viewers react to the show.
Currently, Disney hasn’t announced if a third season of “Tell Me Lies” is going to happen. Hulu previously announced that a second season would be coming about a month after the season finale aired, so based on that, it could still be a couple of months before an official announcement if there is one.
One of the biggest issues for renewals of new shows is gauging how successful a show has been since we don’t yet have any information from third-party outlets like Nielsen regarding how the viewership for the second season has been doing. Nor has Disney said publically that the show is doing well, which it will tend to do whenever a show is very successful.
Unfortunately, Disney, much like other studios, has become ruthless with its cancellations, especially if a show isn’t performing as it wants, in an effort to save money, which is why we are seeing so many shows coming to a close as Disney reduces its general entertainment output.
The entire first season, along with over half of the season of “Tell Me Lies,” is available to stream now on Hulu and Hulu On Disney+ in the United States and on Disney+ internationally.
