Following the news that Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson had left the secret Star Wars film they were writing, Variety has revealed that Steven Knight has taken over the role of screenwriter for the movie, which will be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy/

No details have yet been revealed about this upcoming movie, but it’s expected more will be officially announced about the film at the upcoming Star Wars Celebration event taking place in London over the Easter weekend.

Steven Knight is a writer, director and producer, who has previously created the hit BBC crime drama series, “Peaky Blinders”, in addition to working on “Locke”, “Spencer”, “The Girl in the Spider’s Web”, “Pawn Sacrifice”, “The Hundred-Foot Journey” and “Eastern Promises”.  Other projects Steven has worked on include Apple TV+’s “See” and FX’s “Taboo”.  He has previously been nominated for an Oscar for his screenplay of “Dirty Pretty Things”.

Since the release of “The Rise Of Skywalker” in 2019, Disney hasn’t released any new Star Wars films, as its focus moved to create shows for Disney+ such as “The Mandalorian”, “Andor”, and “Obi-Wan Kenobi”.  A number of other Star Wars films, including “Rogue Squadron” by Patty Jenkins and an untitled film from Marvel Studios president, Kevin Feige, have recently had development cancelled.
