Disney’s Searchlight Pictures has announced that it has delayed the release of the upcoming film, “Next Goal Wins”, by five months, moving from April 21st 2023, to September 22nd 2023.

“Next Goal Wins” follows the infamously terrible American Samoa soccer team, known for a brutal 2001 FIFA match they lost 31-0, which was featured in a documentary by Mike Brett and Steve Jamison, that was released in 2014. The film stars Michael Fassbender, along with Elisabeth Moss, Will Arnett, and Rhys Darby.

The film has been directed by Taika Waititi, and the Oscar-winning screenwriter has also co-wrote the movie with Iain Morris.

Deadline is also suggesting that with the movie being delayed, the film will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, which is taking place in September. Once the film has had its theatrical release, we should expect to see the film available on Disney’s streaming services in late 2023.
