Russo Brothers Give Update On Disney’s Live-Action “Hercules” Movie
With the box office success of Disney’s live-action adaptations of its animated classics, such as “Aladdin,” “The Lion King,” “The Jungle Book,” “Alice In Wonderland,” “Cinderella,” and “Beauty And The Beast,” it should come as no surprise that Disney has been developing a live-action version of its classic animated film, “Hercules,” for a number of years.
In the original animated film, Hercules is taken from the gods as a newborn and adopted on Earth, where he becomes an awkward teenage pillar of strength. While trying to fit in, he discovers that his dad is Zeus and he could live on Mount Olympus—if he can move from “zero” to true hero. Hercules teams with babyhood pal Pegasus, the flying stallion, and Phil, a feisty personal trainer, for the mission. But it’s no easy task, as he must match wits with Grecian beauty Meg and a sinister hothead named Hades. With the help of comical sidekicks Pain and Panic, Hades plans to rule the Universe…with only Hercules standing in his way.
The upcoming film is going be produced by AGBO, which is a production company run by Joe and Anthony Russo, who were behind the Marvel Studios mega-hit, “Endgame”.
Recently, In a recent Total Film interview, the Russo brothers revealed that they are still “waiting on a script” for the upcoming “Hercules” movie.
Previously, the Russo Brothers revealed that the new film would not be a scene-for-scene remake of the original animated film but instead would add more modern elements and was inspired by TikTok to be ‘more experimental’. But it sounds like the movie’s screenplay is going through more changes.
Guy Ritchie, the director behind the live-action smash hit Aladdin, was originally going to direct the movie, but it was reported earlier this year that he had dropped out of the project due to schedule conflicts.
With Disney scaling back how many films it releases and listening to feedback from audiences about Disney overdoing the amount of live-action remakes it makes, it’s unclear if development on the new “Hercules” project is still ongoing.
