At the start of the month, due to previous contracts made by 20th Century Fox before it was purchased by Walt Disney, a handful of titles are removed from Disney+ in the United States each month. Today, the 20th Century Studios family film, “Rookie Of The Year”, has been removed from Disney+ in the US again.  It was previously removed from Disney+ in early 2020, before returning in late 2021.

“Rookie Of The Year” is available to stream now on HBO Max, where it will stay temporarily until the contract expires, and then return to Disney+. We don’t yet have a date for the film to return to Disney+ in the US.  While the ten year deal with HBO has now finished, that only applies to new films being released by 20th Century Studios, not those films previously included in the deal.  The HBO deal will still be impacting on Disney+ in the US for years to come.

The film tells the story of 12-year-old Henry Rowengartner (played Thomas Ian Nicholas), who may be just a clumsy kid, but when the cast is removed from his broken arm, he finds out he can hurl a baseball at the speed of 100 miles an hour! Not only that, but the Chicago Cubs have learned about Henry’s ability, and they want him to help pull their team up from last place. With help from an aging pitching ace (Gary Busey), Henry just might do it.

Unlike other streaming platforms like Netflix or Hulu, Disney+ doesn’t inform subscribers of removals ahead of time. And the title is still available on Disney+ in other countries.
